Spa-A Quality Label ceremony at Hôtel Le Bristol: the winners gathered, trophies in hand

I had the pleasure of hosting the sixth Spa-A Quality Label ceremony, held recently at Hôtel Le Bristol. I was delighted to present the goals of Spa-A and the 2015 winners.

Spa-A is the professional federation for spa and wellbeing professionals. The association brings together 200 volunteer professional members across France and champions excellence in this field.

In 2009, Spa-A launched a nationwide participatory consultation to define quality criteria for spas. With more than 200 professionals involved in defining what a spa should be, the association built a 50-point grid for spas, plus 10 criteria on sustainability, awareness and education. This working grid is a genuine tool for progress and day-to-day management for spa operators.

The association then sends an auditor who evaluates the services, the products and the offering at every stage of the client experience, from booking through to the treatment itself, including a visit to the back-office areas. The Spa-A label becomes a powerful mark of recognition, for teams and for the end consumer alike.

Candidates commit to a three-year period, called the first cycle, with an audit every year. For spas entering a second cycle, the audit takes place every 18 months. Spa-A supports spas in their journey toward continuous improvement, providing, alongside the grid, a detailed report highlighting strengths and areas to improve.

The awards and the 2015 winners

48 spas in France and abroad are now certified under the Spa-A Quality Charter.

Spa-A, the quality label for spas

I invite you to discover the Spa-A association, whose mission is to bring together experts around the spa industry and reflect on the challenges of this sector. The association has been awarding Spa-A quality labels since 2009. More than 50 spas are now Spa-A certified in France and internationally.

The association built a quality charter around five essential values, present throughout the client journey. For Aldina Duarte, president of the association, the Spa-A label is “more than a label, it is a commitment to excellence, a guarantee of safety for the consumer, and a tool for progress and improvement for professionals.”

Let's not forget that spas arriving in the hotel world is, in fact, a fairly recent development, particularly in France. Today, we can hardly imagine a 5 star hotel without a spa. Yet the level of service and products on offer still varies widely from one spa to another: some are run directly by the hotel, others by cosmetics or skincare brands. A framework was therefore needed for this sector, to help drive its excellence.

This label allows spas to assess themselves and see where they stand in their service offering. It is an excellent tool for setting quality benchmarks and developing new service ideas, for example.

It was a great pleasure for me to present and host the 2015 awards ceremony alongside Marion Bartoli, world tennis champion, who came to share her values of ambition and self-improvement, true hallmarks of excellence!
