Interview with Denis Courtiade, Director of Restaurant Jean Imbert at the\u00a0Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I recently encountered a preeminent figure of the Parisian hotel industry:\u00a0Denis Courtiade, the Director of Restaurant Jean Imbert at the Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e.\u00a0I had the pleasure of meeting both him and his team in action. I invite you to\u00a0learn more about him below. As an ambassador of the French art of welcoming,\u00a0he is certainly not someone to be missed!<\/p>\n

What is your view on the French art of welcoming? How do you see this\u00a0notion evolving?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I think it\u2019s important for us to preserve this French Art of Service, even if it\u00a0remains a challenge today for us to define it. On one hand, we have our\u00a0traditions and expertise in the way of hospitality; on the other, France is the most\u00a0frequently visited country by tourists\u2026so we all have to work together to elevate\u00a0our professions in service in order to make sure that all the agents involved\u00a0thoroughly understand the importance of welcoming and serving our clients well.<\/p>\n

We are all Ambassadors of France! The French notions of hospitality and service\u00a0are in some ways a heritage\u2014despite the fact that, in my opinion, there was a\u00a0generational rift in the transmission of the merits of the profession, such that the\u00a0profession did not know how to call itself into question. As founding members of\u00a0the association \u201cO Service\u2014the Talents of Tomorrow,\u201d we work every day with\u00a0students and teachers in schools in order to make people realize that holding a\u00a0career in service is a noble act.<\/p>\n

In what way is service its own art, rather than an obligation?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A man of service must be sincerely conscious of it! Because we receive what\u00a0we offer and reflect, rather than the opposite. Sporting a good attitude, a positive\u00a0approach, feeling a sense of pride in fulfilling a position that is socially important \u2026all\u00a0these parameters, not to mention others, elevate the man of service whether he\u00a0is serving simply coffee or a fine slice of truffled chicken en vessie. And let\u2019s not\u00a0forget that we have to maintain a double personality\u2014which is something we\u00a0learn in hospitality schools\u2014so that when we don our uniforms, we fully become\u00a0a person of service. It\u2019s a question of mindset!<\/p>\n

How was the idea for \u201cO Service\u201d born? What is its role? \u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The association was formed two years ago with the goal of uniting people from\u00a0the various spheres of the profession. We started out in Career Conferences led\u00a0by R\u00e9gis Marcon, and the people who were present were solid people, so we\u00a0realized it was time to come together and form one voice; eventually we went on\u00a0to form one of the benchmarks for \u2018service.\u2019 Our approach involves addressing\u00a0the youth: convincing them, encouraging them, guiding them, and accompanying\u00a0them\u2026<\/p>\n

Can you describe to us your plan of action for the next EQUIPHOTEL?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We recognized the need to develop \u2018fields of action\u2019 outside of our companies\u00a0where the media are present. EQUIPHOTEL and Corinne Menegaux have\u00a0placed their trust in us. For the second time in a row, there will be several of us\u00a0professionals from\u00a0Grandes Maisons who will be there to guide, discuss, and share our\u00a0experiences with students from the Hotel School of T\u00e9comah under the guidance\u00a0of Professor Olivier Penent. The Service Trade must remain represented in all\u00a0the big organizations, fairs, and events\u2026we demand it, and we carry it through\u00a0as volunteers!<\/p>\n
