For the Royal Monceau, this forms a centerpiece that the hotel revisits every few\u00a0months with the help of skilled artists.<\/p>\n

During Design Week in September 2014, the lobby of the Royal Monceau\u00a0welcomed the creation of Soline d\u2019Aboville, a work entitled \u201cFlowers of Paris\u201d: a\u00a0carpet of paper flowers crafted to evoke the image of flight and that is sure to\u00a0take your breath away when you enter the space. Cut from paper images of the\u00a0Royal Monceau\u2019s iconic map of Paris, these Flowers of Paris compose a true\u00a0garden \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise revisited.<\/p>\n
Soline goes on to describe her creation: \u201cThe idea came from a mural fresco by\u00a0St\u00e9phane Calais, \u2018Garden \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise’,\u00a0which adorns the ceiling of the\u00a0restaurant La Cuisine. I wanted to recreate a garden \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise by revisiting\u00a0this concept.<\/em><\/p>\n I was looking to play with the idea of a traditional flower arrangement, all while\u00a0remaining within the classic set of codes. Little by little, I worked to arrive upon\u00a0this paper-crafted flower.<\/em><\/p>\n It has no real touch of whimsy. In fact, it\u2019s a flower that\u2019s somewhat abstract and\u00a0mathematical. As you can see, the groove and the cut of the flower are what\u00a0allowed me to give it its volume. There\u2019s a functionality to the form of the flower\u00a0itself. What I like about its back-story is the idea of imagining a cut-up map of\u00a0Paris in the form of a flower. I love this idea that a map of Paris, or any other\u00a0paper, can become something very pretty and very poetic.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Designer-scenographer and graduate of L\u2019ENSAD, Soline d\u2019Aboville has\u00a0worked since 2001 on crafting artful window displays for Maison Cartier.
