Katy Horovitz: Rethinking Event – Hospitality with Ch\u00e2teauform<\/h1>\n

I recently had the privilege of speaking with Katy Horovitz, who founded\u00a0Ch\u00e2teauform in 1996 with her husband Jacques. Working closely together, this\u00a0couple of hospitality welcomes business conferences and seminars into\u00a0residential venues thoughtfully designed to maximize their participants\u2019 sense of\u00a0business and pleasure. Perhaps nothing says it better than Ch\u00e2teauform\u2019s own\u00a0stated philosophy: \u201cto offer each participant the opportunity to enjoy an\u00a0environment dedicated entirely to work, reflection and relaxation in an\u00a0atmosphere that makes them feel at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

What characterizes your homes in terms of construction and design? What\u00a0is your role in the renovation of your establishments? How is the spirit of\u00a0your brand embodied across these various houses?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cI design to make you feel at home\u2026 and I hope to surprise you from time to\u00a0time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

There are several stages for dressing up a home:<\/p>\n

1st stage -> We ask ourselves:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

What is its architectural style? What are the dimensions of the rooms? How are\u00a0the spaces going to be defined to match the needs of our conference members in\u00a0addition to the administrative and architectural constraints, not to mention the\u00a0constraints of the conference rooms? How do we respect the walls, the\u00a0woodwork, the flooring, the molding, all while creating new openings? How can\u00a0we best use the existing spaces?<\/p>\n

Next stage -> We come up with a theme:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The theme takes into account the architecture, the exterior spaces, and even\u00a0sometimes the geographic location.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons we have a theme is that it feels friendlier to be welcomed into\u00a0tree-themed home where the rooms are called \u201cCedar\u201d rather than identified by\u00a0numbers!<\/p>\n

Which is why Rochefort, this place of grandiloquence, very Hollywood in style,\u00a0was unable to escape a cinematic theme\u2026<\/p>\n

Then, we construct a line of d\u00e9cor that corresponds to the site and the\u00a0theme.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Villa Galaratti Scotti, a designated palace from the 16th century, with all the\u00a0magnificence of its original baroque frescos along its walls and ceilings\u2026\u00a0It struck me that we could furnish this ensemble using contemporary furniture:\u00a0the clean lines leave the walls exposed for discovery.<\/p>\n

My research from books, magazines, the Internet, and travels are, of course,\u00a0indispensable for renewing my ideas each time. We always lean toward adapting\u00a0to places, rather than the reverse, all while keeping in mind the crucial\u00a0exchanges that take place with the decoration and construction teams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
