{"id":25976,"date":"2016-05-09T12:39:01","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T11:39:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.luxury-hotel-expert.com\/?p=25976"},"modified":"2025-03-24T22:53:30","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T22:53:30","slug":"performance-luxury-hotel-social-dimension-plaza-athenee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delporte-hospitality.com\/en\/performance-luxury-hotel-social-dimension-plaza-athenee\/","title":{"rendered":"Performance in Luxury Hotels: The Social Dimension of the Plaza Athen\u00e9e"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e, a Place for Living<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e has recently been expanded and partially renovated following\u00a010 months of work. \u201cIf we have endeavored to expand the Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e, it is in\u00a0an attempt to continue the venture we originally began 100 years ago,\u201d explains\u00a0General Manager Fran\u00e7ois Delahaye, in order to keep it a thoroughly Parisian\u00a0destination, one that forms a part of the world of Haute Couture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I had the pleasure of discovering this house of \u2018Haute Couture\u2019 Hotellerie. This, at\u00a0least, describes the character of the service delivered at the Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e.\u00a0Each employee tends to your every need so that your stay unfolds in the best\u00a0possible conditions, the same way designers might swarm around you to craft a\u00a0tailored gown with a host of skills entering each detail of the preparation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e was able to hold onto all of its employees during its\u00a0renovation period. This clearly reflects its high budget, which remains just as\u00a0important at the core as the direct expenses poured into the renovation. Salaried\u00a0employees were able to keep their salaries during the 10-month period that the\u00a0hotel was closed. While some were able to find work in the hotel Le Meurice,\u00a0others went to England and other destinations to perfect their craft. Then,\u00a0everyone returned to their post for the opening with new experiences and ideas,\u00a0contributing to the continuation of a service that remains constantly in pursuit of\u00a0excellence. Upon returning to the hotel, the clientele was able to take up their\u00a0familiar habitudes and reconnect with the employees they knew.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The wealth of this establishment lies in its having nearly 150 of its 537\u00a0employees trained with more than 10 years of experience, including 50\u00a0employees with more than 20 years. Thus, a respect for tradition remains passed\u00a0down from generation to generation all while remaining reinterpreted with the\u00a0arrival of new talent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is the legendary status of the hotel that appeals to its employees. They take\u00a0part in the history of Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e and fashion the hotel in their own manner.\u00a0Each morning, the heads of the departments convene to plan out the day,\u00a0present the arrival of each client, and discuss the events that will involve the\u00a0hotel, as well as devise tasks for the employees. Each head of service ensures\u00a0good work conditions for his team and makes sure that all appropriate resources\u00a0have been put in place for them to succeed in their missions. His role is to coach\u00a0them as well as to motivate them. The social dimension remains important.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Each of the hotel employees I ran into over the course of the day possessed a\u00a0sense of pride in belonging to the family of the Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e and took to heart\u00a0the mission of offering the best of themselves to ensure each client the very best\u00a0stay. The French art of welcoming remains ever present at the Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e.\u00a0For Fran\u00e7ois Delahaye, the General Manager of the hotel: \u201cIn France, we love to\u00a0serve. There are those who love to render services and who are content in this\u00a0role; they don\u2019t feel at all demeaned. There is no sense of servitude, unlike\u00a0Anglo-Saxon countries where careers in service are perceived as belittling.\u201d To\u00a0offer a service to a client is to offer him relief, to provide him a smile, an emotion,\u00a0a memory; it\u2019s a gift of oneself in service to another.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I have often wondered if the client always deserved this attention. In fact, one\u00a0can sometimes run into difficult clients. I once observed a couple seated in a hall\u00a0who paid no attention to their server, who meanwhile maintained a constant\u00a0smile, who did everything to win a glance, a bit of attention, a sign from her\u00a0clients. Blank, distant, cryptic, the couple remained closed off in their own world.\u00a0Luxury is just as much an education, a culture, an attitude, and a level of respect\u00a0maintained towards one\u2019s employees. Respect and mutual accord are important\u00a0for making the most of experiences. I have even met clients who have directly\u00a0addressed employees during their stay and shared with them every little detail.\u00a0Perhaps they knew them and simply took pleasure in conversing with them. This,\u00a0too, is the spirit of the Plaza Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3871\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3871\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption
